최근 일부 사건 보도로 “중국동포 범죄율이 높다”는 인식이 확산됐지만, 통계는 다르게 말합니다. 2023년 기준 중국 국적자의 범죄 건수는 많지만, 이는 체류 인구가 가장 크기 때문이며 인구 1,000명당 범죄 건수는 16.48건으로 전체 평균(13.18건)과 비슷한 수준입니다. 개별 강력사건을 전체 중국동포 집단의 특성으로 일반화해 편견과 사회적 갈등을 만들지 않도록, 정확한 자료에 기반한 균형 잡힌 시각이 필요합니다.

Recently, some media reports have created the image that “crime rates among Chinese Koreans are very high.” Official 2023 statistics show a different picture. Although the total number of crimes by Chinese nationals is large, this is mainly because their population in Korea is the biggest; per 1,000 residents, the crime rate (16.48 cases) is similar to the overall average (13.18). We should not generalize a few serious cases to an entire community or fuel social conflict. A fair, fact-based understanding is essential.
