K-STAR 비자트랙: 이공계 우수 외국인 유학생 ‘정착’ 패스트트랙

법무부 K-STAR 비자트랙(Korea-Science & Technology Advanced Human-Resources)은 과학기술 분야 글로벌 우수인재가 졸업과 동시에 한국에 안정적으로 정착해 연구·개발 활동을 이어갈 수 있도록 돕는 제도입니다. 이번 개편으로 혜택 대상 대학이 확대되고, 체류·영주·귀화까지 이어지는 패스트트랙이 강화되었습니다.

• 추천받은 유학생은 취업 없이도 F-2(거주) 비자 즉시 신청 가능

• 연구실적 우수 시 체류기간과 관계없이 ‘특별귀화’ 신청 가능

진행 흐름(개요)

• D-2(유학) – K-STAR 선정대학 유학생→ 학위 취득 즉시 F-2(거주)→ (① 연구실적 우수) 특별귀화 신청 가능→ (② 연구 지속 3년) F-5(영주) 신청 가능 (이후 귀화도 연계 가능)

대상 대학 확대

기존 5개 이공계 특성화대학 중심에서 27개 대학을 추가 선정하여, 총 32개 대학으로 확대되었습니다.즉, 특성화대학뿐 아니라 일반대학의 우수 연구역량 인재도 패스트트랙 혜택을 받을 수 있습니다.

K-STAR Visa Track: Fast-Track Settlement Path for Top STEM International Students

The Ministry of Justice’s K-STAR Visa Track (Korea-Science & Technology Advanced Human-Resources) is designed to help outstanding global STEM talent settle in Korea immediately after graduation and continue stable research and R&D activities. With the recent expansion, the program now covers more universities and offers a stronger “fast-track” route.

Key Benefits

• Selected university presidents are granted the authority to recommend top students

• Recommended students can apply for an F-2 (residency) visa immediately, even without a job

• Eligible to apply for F-5 (permanent residency) after 3 years (reduced from the general 6-year path)

• With excellent research achievements, applicants may pursue special naturalization regardless of residence period

Typical Path (Overview)

• D-2 (student) at a K-STAR selected university→ F-2 (residency) right after degree completion→ Option A: Special naturalization (if research performance is outstanding)→ Option B: F-5 (permanent residency) after 3 years (and naturalization may follow)

Expanded University Coverage

The program expanded from the original five STEM-focused institutions by adding 27 more universities, totaling 32 selected universities. This means strong STEM talent from general universities can also benefit from the fast-track.
